An Inviting Project
The Inova Honors Fundraising Gala celebrates an outstanding individual donor and the previous year of philanthropy.
The need was clear: a sophisticated graphics package that would elevate the main video presentation and video elements to tie the whole event together.
Inspired by the event invitation featuring heavy card stock and de-bossed silver foil, The package’s many elements come together to give the event production team flexibility and the video highlight a premium feel. All with the goal of celebrating the community and encouraging the Do. More. Together. philanthropic campaign.
Sparking Change
The intro video leans on their event phrase: “Spark Change. It starts with you.” by taking their spark logo on the invitation disk and imagine it as the spark that starts a wave of charitable donations; represented by the silver de-bossed lines of the Do. More. Together. logo.
Where We All Come Together
The video climax visually conveys how every person and interaction is part of the Inova experience.
Flexibility was key, so a custom After Effects pipeline was developed to use an integer pass as mattes for a UV pass to keep the media in each mosaic tile replaceable. Crypto-matte required too much manual intervention to automate.
To give back to the the motion fesign community, I made a quick tutorial detailing my methods so that others can use that workflow in the future. Also so I can look it up again myself!
Alternative Directions
The invitation direction wasn’t the only style on the table to start. While it was the one ultimately chosen, there were 3 branching paths it could have gone down. One alternate would have seen the orange fabric of the event decoration take a more central role while another would have doubled down on the separate elements coming together aspect of the mosaic climax and incorporated that across the entire project.
